SANFORD, Fla. — Seminole County Supervisor of Elections Amy Pennock and the women of the Elections Office are commemorating the 106th anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, which falls on Primary Election Day, August 18.
Pennock and the office’s female staff attended the August 11 meeting of the Seminole County Board of County Commissioners. At the beginning of the meeting, the Board read and presented a proclamation recognizing August 18, 2026, as Women’s Right to Vote Commemoration Day.
The Elections Office team attended the proclamation presentation wearing shirts featuring an “I Voted” sticker designed by a female student at Tuskawilla Middle School, adding another meaningful connection to the occasion.
The Nineteenth Amendment was ratified on August 18, 1920, following decades of advocacy, sacrifice and perseverance by generations of women seeking equal voting rights. With the anniversary falling on Florida’s Primary Election Day this year, voters have a meaningful opportunity to honor that legacy by exercising the right those women fought to secure.
“It is especially meaningful that Election Day falls on the anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment,” Pennock said. “The best way we can honor the courage and determination of the women who fought for the right to vote is to participate, make our voices heard and never take that right for granted.”
Representatives from the Sallie Harrison Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the League of Women Voters were also in attendance to commemorate the occasion.
The Seminole County Supervisor of Elections Office encourages all eligible voters to participate in Tuesday’s Primary Election.
On Election Day, Tuesday, August 18, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters must vote at their assigned polling location.
